The 2012 NSW Council of Freshwater Anglers Fly Fishing Meet

The NSWCFA Fly Fishing Meet is a social fly-fishing long weekend that is held annually at Black Gold Country Cabins at Wallerawang in NSW on the 2nd weekend March (9th to 11th March 2012). It’s a weekend where a wide cross section of fly-fishers, ranging from novices to the accomplished come together to share fly-tying, fly-casting – with free tuition available in these two areas – the exchange of fly- fishing knowledge and the opportunity to fish together.

The cottage style accommodation is comfortable and economical and the option of motel rooms (there is a big demand for these so I suggest you book early, directly to Black Gold if you want one) is also available.

The Interclub Meet starts at midday on Friday. In the evening a briefing on the weekend is given, followed by a talk from an experienced local fly fisher who gives an overview on fishing prospects for the weekend. A continental breakfast is available from 5 am on Saturday and Sunday, or you have the option to do your own thing in your accommodation. You make your own arrangements for Saturday lunch, there is a dinner and the winners of the fly tying and photo competitions are announced. On registering at the Meet each registrant receives a gift bag of donated goods, this can range from a tippet spool to a fly rod. The donated goods are usually in the vicinity of two to three thousand dollars in value and generally everyone receives one, it could be spool of tippet material or a fly rod.

On Sunday after the Fly Casting competition there is a BBQ lunch and the awarding of the remaining competition prizes.

Fishing is available in Lakes Lyell and Wallace and in Oberon and Thompson’s Creek Dams, as well as nearby Central Tablelands streams.

There is an informal Fly Tying, Casting and Fishing competition for individuals and a trophy is awarded to the champion club on the weekend.

The registration fee includes accommodation*, meals, a gift bag and entry into competitions.
